Tickets selling fast for Sweet Sounds for Te Takere
Tickets are selling fast for the ‘Sweet Sounds for Te Takere’ fundraising concerts being held in Levin on Saturday, 5 November 2011 at the Levin Memorial Hall. There’s a matinee show at 1.00pm – 4.30pm and an evening show from 7.00pm – 10.30pm and tickets cost $15.00 per show.
The two concerts being run under the Pounamu Country Music Club, Levin will feature popular country entertainer Eddie Low together with local artists Connor Cornell, Sam Saili, Evelyn Such [Saxophone] the Miti family and the Nga Wai O Manawhenua group - a combined Kapa Haka group from Waiopehu College and Horowhenua College.
Pounamu Country Music Club, Musical Director, Geoff Herewini says the club is running the fundraiser because they support the vision behind Te Takere, the Horowhenua Culture and Community Centre planned for Levin.
“The club’s vision is to promote and encourage music and to offer all ethnic groups, youth, the elderly and people with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy music together. There are so many talented youth out there and music can give them a sense of pride and open up so many opportunities. There seems to be a lot of funding for kids once they get into trouble. Our focus is on helping them before they get into trouble - that’s our goal.”
Geoff says the club can also see Te Takere as a possible venue for holding its popular monthly club days, which are held on the first Saturday of the month.
Tickets are available now from Horowhenua Libraries or Muaupoko Tribal Authority.
