Treaty Update 12th July 2010
On the 18 June 2006 the board approved MTA to lead the Treaty Claims on behalf of Muaupoko. The board also approved the process of establishing a Muaupoko Claims Committee to drive the pre mandate Treaty activity. This open and transparent process will roll out next month and will include the following:
1. Clear skills set developed for members to be selected on the Committee.
- Governance, Negotiation - (commercial and strategic etc), Relationship Management, Research - Historical Account and Evidence Base, Cultural - Te Reo and Tikanga, Tribal knowledge and History, Oral and Written Communication, Project Management, Understands Crown/Treaty Settlement processes (critical)
2. Media release developed for applications from claimants, whanau, hapu and iwi to establish a Muaupoko Claims Committee to drive the pre-mandate treaty activity. This open application process will allow our claimant community to encourage suitably skilled members to come forward to advance Muaupoko's treaty claims and interest.
3. "Call for Application" document developed highlighting MTA's approach, the planned activity for the Claims Committee, Call for Applications Timetable and Procedure, Applicant Eligibility and Skills Set evidence, and Assessment Process.
4. Candidate options for the Establishment of an Assessment Panel.
5. Terms of Reference developed detailing Term of Establishment, Role and Responsibility, Membership including skill, experience and appointment of chair, Code of Conduct, Accountability and Reporting, Secretariat, Meetings, Communications and Relationship Management.
This is in response to a hui called by MTA on Saturday 22 May, that claimants and hapu representatives saying "don't leave us behind".
